Herbert R. Costa, 85, passed after a brief illness on July 26th. He was the husband of the late Joan (Heffernan) Costa.
Born in Cumberland he was the son of the late Herbert Costa and Maryann (Lavoie) Costa.
Herbert had been employed as a plumber for many years for Richard E. Egerton, and was also a pipefitter for Owens Corning Fiberglass. Herb then retired as foreman for The Town of Cumberland’s Water Department. He was a member of the US Navy Reserves and a former Fire Chief of the Ashton Fire Department. After retirement he enjoyed fishing, golfing, New England Sports and most of all spending time with his family and his grand dogs.
Mr. Costa is survived by three daughters, Susan Laflamme and her husband Paul, Karen Mitchell and her husband Glen, Lauren McCarthy and her husband Kirk; two grandchildren, Dr. Collette Laflamme and her husband, Thomas Muscolo, Pvt. Cote Laflamme; two great grandsons, Bennett and Philip Muscolo. Herbert was the brother of the late Constance Egerton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 30th at 10am in the Historic St. Joseph Church, 1303 Mendon Rd., Cumberland. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made HopeHealth Hulitar Center, 1085 North Main St, Providence, RI 02904.
